A Suffolk-based manufacturer, specialising in the supply of technical foam products for construction has installed a new dust extraction filter unit to service their latest process equipment.
The addition of a new bandsaw for the processing of Thermapor, a high-density, tough and water-resistant material designed for assembly and sealing details on external wall insulation systems, presented a dust problem, and as noted by the HSE, the importance of dust extraction is essential, with measures required to avoid any dust left lying on surfaces causing a potential fire hazard and airborne particles creating an explosion hazard. To control any dust and fine particles mechanical exhaust ventilation should be used.
Fercell were contracted to design and install a Local Exhaust Ventilation system to capture and control dust emissions from the cutting process, and allow the customer to expand their manufacturing capabilities, whilst providing a safe working space.
Dust Extraction Solution
A centralised ducting system was close-coupled to the new bandsaw, to ensure effective capture of dust and fine particulate at source, while clean air exhausts through the cartridge filter directly into the space around the dust unit.
As the system needed to handle fine particulate in addition to coarse particulate, the TRV unit was supplied with a CRT202 cartridge filter. Manufactured from TNF polyester media, it’s constructed in multiple micro-pleats, providing a significantly larger filter area than standard bag filters. This enables a broad filtration down to particle sizes of 1 micron. It’s also equipped with a hand operated filter cleaning mechanism, which optimises filter performance.
The TRV-1 is ideal for the capture, transportation, and separation of any dust particulate in the workshop area. Supplied with a single bag arrangement any waste material is collected in heavy-duty sacks, with quick release straps for minimum downtime during replacement.
