Specialising in the manufacture of PVC polymer products, a UK-based company has expanded their onsite capabilities to provide a facility to recycle any bulky plastic waste.
Production waste and reject stock are reduced in size through the process of shredding, from where the material can be further processed into granules for reintroduction into the manufacturing process.
A Fitting Solution
Working with a restricted budget but still wanting to achieve optimum capacity and output, a pre-owned WEIMA WKS1400 single-shaft shredder offered an ideal solution.
Fercell’s range of pre-owned shredders are serviced and refurbished in-house to effectively deliver many more years of service and an effective solution where new equipment is simply not affordable. You can also benefit from pre-owned equipment being readily available, which can be an advantage when tight deadlines are involved.
The shredder is part of a complete industrial size reduction system, consisting of an infeed conveyor, a WEIMA WKS1400 shredder with an enclosed hopper, an outfeed conveyor, and a UF5 dust filter.
Material is manually loaded onto the infeed conveyor, where it travels to the WEIMA WKS1400 shredder. The input material is shredded before being transported via an outfeed conveyor to a collection container. From here, the shredded output is ready to be transferred for further processing into granules.
The enclosed hopper ensures that any plastic chips and dust particulate are contained within the shredding facility. Any dust and debris is transported to a UF5 dust filter, where collection sacks allow for straightforward disposal of waste, which can be swapped for a replacement sack once full, requiring minimal downtime.
Shredding Plastics with WEIMA
The WEIMA WKS1400 single-shaft shredder has been designed to handle all kinds of plastic waste, from voluminous plastic objects to tear-resistant fibres and films, which makes it ideal for processing a variety of plastic waste onsite.
Processing even the most difficult of plastic materials is effortless with WEIMA’s universal V rotor. The rotor measures 500 mm in diameter, with a length of 1,400 mm, which delivers high throughput and high flexibility.
The shredder counter knives can be adjusted and turned from the outside. When shredder knives are rotated at regular intervals, it ensures optimum throughput rates and increases their service life.
Maintenance of the WKS is straightforward with the entire screen basket opened hydraulically at the push of a button. Its distinctive swing ram is integrated into the cutting chamber, saving space.
Shredding plastic reduces waste volumes, prevents material that can be recycled from being sent straight to landfill, and ultimately provides output ready for further processing which can be reused in manufacturing processes.
