Wood Processing Dust Extraction

By recycling your electronic waste, you are helping to save the environment. We have many different machines to help you do this.

Wood Waste

Wood processing and wood working is a huge industry which includes furniture production and carpentry and requires much regulation. Wood unfortunately poses many health risks where dust is concerned and so dust extraction is essential.  The biggest risk is from fine dust, which can be inhaled deep into your lungs where it will do the most damage. Fine dust will also spread further from the cutting process so it is important to operate within a clean environment with adequate ventilation.

In addition to the tiny particles of wood produced during processing, wood dust can also contain bacteria and fungal and moss spores. The quantity and type of wood dust will depend on the wood being cut and the machine being used, for example: whether the timber is green or seasoned; whether it is a hardwood, softwood or composite board; how aggressive the machine cutter or blade profile is. If dust is not properly ventilated, workers can get asthma, skin disorders and even nasal cancer, although don’t panic, this is rare.

What types of dust extraction are there?

Ledges and other workroom surfaces should be cleaned regularly to prevent dust from accumulating. Our LEV engineers can assist with deep cleans of dust extraction units and can train operators of them how to keep them clean moving forward.

Our range of dust extraction systems can cater for all types of dust from fine to more coarse and from all types of wood, whether hard or soft. To view all dust extraction solutions click here.

Companies within the woodworking sector should ensure that any current dust extraction systems are COSHH and LEV checked every 12 – 14 months to check filters are not blocked and are working effectively, which will in turn act as a cost saving technique.
